Young people – making a positive contribution to Angus Communities
Young people across Angus are making a very valuable contribution to the lives of other people and communities throughout Angus.
As part of the new MV Award Scheme (Millennium Volunteering) run through Volunteer Centre Angus more than 200 young people have become involved in volunteering. The volunteering opportunities are wide and varied including
• Becoming involved in environmental work
• Make A Difference Days
• Helping out at Scouts, Guides, Brownies and Cubs groups
• Also working across a range of different volunteer involving organisations throughout Angus
Young people have greatly benefited from becoming involved in the MV Award Scheme. The MV is given for young people who have completed 50, 100 and 200 hours volunteering and this is recognised by the First Minister for Scotland.
MV also offers young people a valuable opportunity to put it on your CV and help you gain employment, Higher and Further Education. In launching the MV Awards, Angus College Principal, John Burt said “MV offers a unique opportunity for young people to make a valuable contribution as Active Citizens through volunteering. The work of Volunteer Centre Angus is very progressive and innovative, making sure that young people who volunteer get new opportunities that they want. Crucial to volunteering, it is not a mundane task, it is something that young people enjoy doing”
